Measure P: Our Kids, Our Future

A dedicated local investment in child care and early education.

A child’s early years are the foundation for everything that follows and child care is essential infrastructure for a thriving community. But in Marin County, we are experiencing a child care crisis driven by exceptionally high costs, limited access, and a shrinking provider workforce.

• More than half of Marin’s children ages 0–12 with working parents don’t have access to high-quality early education.
• Child care and early education are too expensive for many working parents.
• Employers in key sectors of our local economy struggle to attract and retain employees.
• Child care providers and educators struggle to make ends meet and stay in the field they love.

Measure P is a voter-led measure to create a dedicated local funding source for child care and early childhood education, generating approximately $12.5 million annually to expand access, strengthen the early childhood workforce, and improve child care and early education facilities right here in Marin County.

Measure P is on the November 3, 2026 ballot in Marin County. It is a voter-led effort to meet a significant community need. It would establish a 15-year special parcel tax dedicated to child care and early childhood education in Marin County.

What Would Measure P Fund?

• Expanded Access to Child Care and Early Education
  Affordable, high-quality opportunities for more Marin children and families.
• A Stronger Early Childhood Workforce
  Improved compensation to attract and retain child care providers and educators here in Marin.
• Better Facilities
  Develop, maintain, improve, and expand spaces where young children learn and grow.
• Local Accountability
  Funds would stay in Marin, with public oversight and annual independent financial audits. Administrative expenses would be capped at 5%.

What Will it Cost?

The initial tax would be 5 cents per square foot of building area per year. A 2,000-square-foot home would pay approximately $100 per year.
