Transforming Lives

At Community Action Marin, we’ve helped to transform thousands of individual lives. By providing key stabilization services in conjunction with high-touch career coaching and job training pathways, we support individuals with attaining employer-recognized certificates and credentials and obtaining employment in high-demand professions. 

Current Career & Workforce Programs

Peer Support Specialist Training

This CalMHSA-approved, Medi-Cal program provides peer-to-peer education and support to individuals who self-identify as having experience with the process of recovery from a mental illness or substance use disorder, either as a consumer of these services or as their parent, caregiver, or family member.

The program serves as a pathway to certification and employment/volunteer positions within the public mental health system once participants finish the class and take and pass the Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification exam.

Associate Teacher Apprenticeship

The Pathways to Success Apprenticeship helps participants jump-start their career in early childhood education. Participants in this unique working and learning experience earn 12 Early Childhood Education units through College of Marin, complete 2,000 hours of paid work experience, and are eligible for an Associate Teacher permit.

Family Childcare Network

Our licensed childcare providers offer high quality childcare for children 0-3 years of age and combine the standards of a first-rate childcare center with the personal touch and familiarity of a home environment.

Children are cared for in safe and healthy surroundings and enjoy developmentally and age-appropriate activities and nurturing interactions.

Career Coaching

Finding a new job or career path is a daunting task and it helps to have someone in your corner. During one-on-one sessions, our experienced coaches provide invaluable help for members.

They help them plan for a job change, enroll in training, develop resumes and cover letters, practice interviewing, secure appropriate clothing, search for job openings that match their skills and interests, and submit job applications.

Credit Assistance Community Action Marin

Small Business Development Advising

Through a partnership with Marin Small Business Development Center, future and current small business owners can access free business advising. Small businesses are the lifeblood of Marin, and for many people the only way to create a livelihood. It’s not always easy to make a small business succeed however. Marin residents who have an existing business they'd like to strengthen or expand, or a hobby they want to grow into a business, or are just curious about working for themselves, are encouraged to reach out.

Past Programs

Workforce Accelerator Program

A Road to Self-Sufficiency was a holistic job training program for those in the county over 18 seeking employment. This program was thanks to a grant from the California Workforce Development Board.

Kitchen Apprentice Program

Our Apprenticeship Program trained and mentored those seeking a career in the food industry or entrepreneurship opportunities focused on food. The 6-month program equipped individuals with the knowledge and skills to develop and launch a small food business or to join the larger food and hospitality industry. Apprentices were matched with food industry professionals specializing in baking and butchering and received a chance to learn invaluable business and marketing skills.

Driver Academy

Community Action Marin's partnership with Vivalon Rides offered an opportunity for a career as a professional, trained, and licensed commercial driver. iith free tuition, participants could begin a new career with job security driving commercial vehicles and supporting the community. The Academy provided a combination of in-class and field training to help those in the program successfully pass DMV written exams and behind-the-wheel field tests, and provided CPR and First Aid certification and job placement assistance.
