At Community Action Marin, we stand in solidarity with immigrant families, our neighbors, friends, and colleagues. Helping people is what we do and we recognize that the strength of our community lies in one another. Together we are united in a commitment to democracy that includes due process for all regardless of immigration status. Today and always, we will protect the rights, dignity, safety, and voice of everyone in our community.

The following guide provides information on resources, rights, and support systems that are available to immigrants residing in Marin County. Please reach out to our agency or another trusted provider for more information.

Report ICE activity

Rapid Response Networks (RRNs) operate a 24/7 hotline for community members to report ICE activity. Bilingual dispatchers answer and respond to calls by activating Legal Observers in real time to verify the reported ICE activity. Rapid Response Networks can also provide legal assistance if you or a family member has been detained or needs long-term legal representation. Some are volunteer-led and operated and availability may vary. Always contact a trusted legal services provider (see section below) about your specific case.

  • Marin Rapid Response Network (MRRN) Hotline: (415) 991-4545
  • West Marin Rapid Response Network (WMRRN) Hotline: (415) 320-4826
  • North Bay Rapid Response Network (NBRRN) Hotline: (707) 800-4544 for Sonoma, Napa, and Solano Counties

Public Benefits

Public benefits provide access to food, healthcare, housing, and other basic living needs. You may be eligible for several public benefits and Community Action Marin can provide a comprehensive screening to determine your eligibility and assist you with completing applications, including:

  • CalFresh: CalFresh (also known as SNAP) provides a monthly food assistance subsidy that you can use to purchase groceries from participating grocery stores and farmer’s markets.
  • Medi-Cal: Medi-Cal provides free or low-cost health care. It can help pay for doctor visits, hospital care, immunization (vaccines), pregnancy-related services, nursing home care, and other services.
  • LIHEAP: The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) can help you pay your heating bills in the form of a one-time payment.

The federal government has made recent changes to several public benefit programs so it is important to consult with a trusted provider. You should consider Data Privacy and Public Charge rules when applying for public benefits. Read more about them here:

  • Public charge: 3 Things You Need To Know provides information about proposed changes to the public charge rule that the government uses to determine if an immigrant is likely to rely on the government for support in the future.

The United States is fortunate to have become the home of millions of immigrants from all over the world… Immigrants strengthen communities by being leaders, creating jobs, establishing businesses, contributing to economic growth, and enriching cultural diversity. They spend, invest, pay taxes, and raise productivity. They bring with them important and diverse values and cultural experiences that enrich society…Community Action Marin is committed to supporting Marin County’s immigrant community.
