De Colores Children’s Center and Safety Net Services Hub
Posted on Category Events, Stories

Join us for the Grand Opening and Celebration of the agency’s newest location in downtown San Rafael, the De Colores Children’s Center and Family & Safety Net Services Hub. Located at 1123 Court Street, the De Colores site will be a comprehensive children, family, and safety net services hub. Both Early Head Start (serving children 0-3) and preschool classrooms for children 3-5 will be offered, as well as the agency’s safety net supports to community, including rental, energy, and cash assistance.

On Saturday, August 14, 2021 from 10am-12pm, the agency, along with community members, will host an official ribbon cutting ceremony and welcome remarks from Supervisor Dennis Rodoni. The public are invited to join and help us celebrate. There will be a public tour of the center, which is on the campus of St. Paul’s Church, starting right after the ribbon cutting at 1pm.

“We are grateful to be able to open our newest location to strengthen access to needed community services,” said Chandra Alexandre, CEO of Community Action Marin. “De Colores will help us deliver on our promise to support low-wage and working families by giving them a safe, caring, home-away-from-home for children to have fun, learn, and explore in community. Offering on-site safety net supports will strengthen outcomes for all.”

Despite affluence in the region, over the past year, the need for safety net services has vastly increased in Marin County. The agency’s Safety Net Services team has stepped up to serve more people than ever before with over $2M distributed in cash and rental assistance last year.

“With this new site, we are looking forward to serving more community members, helping to meet immediate and longer-term needs. We know that cash and rental assistance are clear priorities, followed by the need for food security and utilities help,” said Safety Net Services Director, Laurel Hill.

Community Action Marin has provided high-quality early child care and education to the families of Marin for over 30 years. The agency is pleased to continue expanding services at this newest location, helping to meet people where they are.

“We look forward to welcoming old and new friends and families at our ribbon cutting on August 14 and further sharing our commitment to serving more members of our community at this new site,” said Monique Liebhard, Vice President of Children and Family Services. “With 90% of working families seeking child care to stay employed, the opening of De Colores Children’s Center will offer some assistance where it is sorely needed.”
