Good Food for All

Got Five Minutes? Let’s Talk about Food.
Posted on Category General, Stories

Food justice starts with heart and connection so that people feel one another in their shared humanness. We eat to live, and good food is a human right. But food has so much meaning too, beyond sustenance. It fills our families and cultures with experiences and memories that generations to come will inherit.

Hunger and poor access to healthy food are realities for people of low income in Marin, despite the county’s general affluence. Over the past year, food insecurity among these individuals and families intensified and grew due to COVID-19. The statistics are pretty astounding with 1 in 5 families (1 in 3 seniors) struggling to put food on the table.

Community Action Marin is working hard to address and eliminate food insecurity. We are growing food and partnering across the county to strengthen healthy food access and justice for all through our Production Farm, Central Kitchen, Apprenticeship Program, Learning Gardens, and Emergency Food Boxes.

We owe a big thanks to all who have joined with us and taken and shared #FiveMinutesforFood with their friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers! And to those who came to Community Action Marin’s Good Food for All event and video screening this past weekend.

We invite everyone to take #FiveMinutesforFood and watch our Good Food for All video over Thanksgiving and start a conversation about what we can do together to make healthy, good food accessible to everyone in our community. The Community Action Marin Good Food for All Video and Community Discussion Guide on our website is full of conversation starters and ideas on how to learn more, and do more for food justice in our community.
