Helping Local Families Thrive with the Community Services Block Grant

Economic hardship is on the rise and it impacts our Marin community. The high cost of housing. The Bay Area’s highest rate of child poverty. Working families who have trouble making ends meet. Our community is unique and we need local solutions.

“Community Action Marin is proud to be Marin County’s official anti-poverty agency,” shared Chandra Alexandre, CEO. “We work as part of a network of over 1,000 Community Action Agencies nationwide who have been leading the charge to grow economic stability for hard-working people for 60 years. In Marin County, ensuring strong anti-poverty movement building levers are helping people and changing lives is made possible with core federal funding.”

The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) gives Community Action Agencies across America the ability to operate programs and services. It’s built on a simple idea: local communities are best suited to address poverty with a tailored approach that responds to unique community needs. At CAM, staff serve on the frontlines to prevent and eliminate poverty. CSBG remains the only federal program designed to address or eliminate poverty. It is a fiscally responsible and accountable program that is proven to work.

From natural disasters or a health crisis to job loss, people of low income in almost every community continue to be only one tragedy away from financial hardship. We celebrate the work of all Community Action Agencies and the vital importance of the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG).
