On Friday June 18, Community Action Marin staff hosted a “pop-up” event on Drake Avenue in Marin City. Intern Bella Moynihan, CARE Homeless Outreach workers Fatai Tokolahi and Cerbelio Rodas-Reyes, and Community Engagement Coordinator Ida Green were all on-site to provide information to Marin City residents about Community Action Marin’s programs and offer some services on the spot. We recently launched a partnership with Bayside Martin Luther King Jr. Academy to expand service delivery on-site at the school, located just up the street from the pop-up event. The expansion of our service delivery to Marin City and Bayside Martin Luther King Jr. Academy was made possible through a collaborative partnership with the Sausalito Marin City School District and the Marin County Cooperation Team.
We know the importance of being present in community and pop-up events are just one way that our staff and services build relationships with residents throughout the county. When community members know our staff by sight and by name, they are more likely to refer their friends, families, and neighbors for services that give them a step up. At our pop-up, nearly a dozen people signed up for energy or rental assistance. Other services we provided on-site included referrals to our Homeless Outreach Team, cash assistance, economic opportunity, and child care. A number of residents stopped by to say hello and to introduce other friends, neighbors, and relatives to the Community Action Marin staff.
Our team will be back with more Marin City pop-ups, as soon as Friday, July 2, and with more planned in the coming months. In the meantime, Monday through Friday from 10am to 2pm Community Action Marin staff is on-site at Bayside/MLK offering energy assistance, rental assistance, financial coaching, and career coaching. Come see us!
