The holidays are typically a joyous time for families, but for nearly 1/3 of Marin’s families that live paycheck to paycheck, making the decision to pay the rent or to buy gifts for their children can be stressful and dampen spirits. Getting by and getting ahead have become difficult for many residents.

For parents and caregivers, enrollment in childcare services directly helps them to meet their basic needs, reduces stress, provides time for them to pursue education or job training, and helps them care for their families. This past year, Community Action Marin provided 443 children early education and comprehensive services. High quality early care and education fosters children’s healthy development, supporting them to learn, grow, pursue their dreams, and thrive.
This December, generous donors, volunteers, community partners, and supporters purchased, wrapped, and delivered more than 500 gifts for children in our early education program. A board game, a stuffed toy, a set of blocks—these generous donations will provide joy, hope, and dignity for children and families in Marin.
This holiday season, I am reminded of the shared humanity, kindness, and generosity of our community. Making a gift today moves us closer to a more equitable Marin where we will achieve hope, dignity, and well-being for all.
