When Mildred moved to Marin from Guatemala in 2018, she faced the challenges of building a new life in an unfamiliar place—balancing the demands of a retail job while embracing motherhood. As her daughter grew, Mildred dreamed of a career that would allow her to nurture her child while also finding personal fulfillment.
“I wanted a job where I could spend more time with my daughter and feel fulfilled as a person,” Mildred shared.
That dream became a reality when she discovered Community Action Marin’s apprenticeship program, Early Care & Education Pathways to Success (ECEPTS). This transformative workforce development program equips aspiring early childhood educators with the tools they need to succeed.
Through ECEPTS, Mildred earned 12 college credits, completed 2,000 hours of paid work experience, and is in the process of earning her California Child Development Associate Teacher Permit. Today, she’s continuing her education with the goal of becoming a Lead Teacher in an infant-toddler classroom at Community Action Marin.
With mentors who understood her journey and a dual-language program tailored to her needs, Mildred gained the confidence and skills to pursue her passion for nurturing young minds—all while building a stronger connection with her daughter.
Mildred is one of hundreds whose lives have been transformed through Community Action Marin’s workforce development programs. These initiatives equip participants to achieve certifications and credentials, creating pathways to self-sufficiency and brighter futures.
