Last week the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority (BAHFA) removed the affordable housing bond measure (Regional Measure 4/RM4) from the November ballot. Passage of this $20 billion regional bond measure would have delivered $700 million for affordable housing in Marin, a much-needed investment toward solving our housing crisis.
While this is a disappointing turn, we remain undeterred. Our commitment to housing as a human right means that we at Community Action Marin are still in the fight for affordable housing.
We stand with our neighbors, people who bear the brunt of the housing crisis and feel this setback each and every day. We are dedicated to working with them and others: teachers, parents, business owners, seniors, healthcare providers, our local workforce. Together, we are taking action to meet immediate needs and build sustainable solutions that honor the dignity of each person and family.
As a member of the Housing for All Marin coalition, we are pivoting to channel our collective energy in support of passing Prop 5. This is a statewide measure that will set a 55% voter approval threshold for local housing and infrastructure bonds.
There are actions we can and must take now to ensure that everyone has a safe and affordable place to call home. Passing Prop 5 is a critical next step to make passage of the BAHFA affordable housing bond possible in the future. Together, we will advance the housing solutions that all members of our community need and deserve.
Onward!
