Skyrocketing Rents Push Out Working Families – Yes on Measures O and N

Posted on Category Advocacy

This election season, San Anselmo faces a pivotal choice on housing that will shape the future of our community. Two key measures on the ballot – Measures O and N – will protect renters from skyrocketing costs and displacement while allowing landlords to make a fair return.

For families like Kyle Amsler and Curt Ries, these protections are critical. Both raised in San Anselmo, they dream of raising their toddler in the same community they love. They’re not looking to buy a home—they are happy to rent—but without rent control, they lack the stability and security they need to stay.

Under state tenant protections laws, Kyle and Curt face the looming threat of up to 10% annual rent increases, which far exceeds the average increase in wages. Without local tenant protections, they could be forced to leave the community they’ve both known all their lives.

The vote on tenant protections is about the kind of community we want to be.

As a longstanding human service provider in Marin County, we see the widespread impact of the housing crisis every single day. The status quo doesn’t bode well for Marin’s future, and we are all in for what it will take to advance racial and economic justice here in our community. Community Action Marin is YES on Measures O and N.

Imagine a Marin where working families can afford to live, grow, and thrive. Let’s make it so, together!

In solidarity,
