When families learn about Community Action Marin many seek to enroll their young children in our childcare programs through Children and Family Services. Our childcare and family development programs provide low-income families and their children from birth to age five with comprehensive health services, education services, and social services. Families are supported as they make positive changes in their lives that will benefit them now and in the future.
When Angela Mercado gained custody of her two youngest grandchildren, Aziriah and Josiah, she found herself having a hard time coping due to all of the extra support she needed for them. She came to Community Action Marin and asked for help.
“Community Action Marin provided a therapist, a parenting partner, and a support team, as well as childcare. My grandchildren started with the program at Marin Learning Center in August 2018. After that, they went to preschool. Having them involved in these programs allowed me to have full-time employment. I am now 68, and I don’t know what I would do without their support.
“Attending the preschool and bonding with their teachers in the classrooms has helped a lot with Aziriah’s and Josiah’s English vocabulary, their ability to understand, and their overall development. Josiah is more sociable, happy, loves to paint and sing every time he comes home thanks to this program! I used to volunteer in classrooms but, unfortunately, with the COVID-19 situation, I am not able to. I miss very much the opportunity to volunteer and interact with the teachers and children at MLC.
“What Community Action Marin has done for me and my grandchildren, the support through our struggles, has been wonderful. To say I am grateful is not enough. I feel this does not come close to expressing how I feel about the group I work with, or the care my grandchildren receive from their childcare programs. Anytime I see people that need help or assistance, I always recommend Community Action Marin’s services because they are helpful for children and families.” —Angela Mercado
