Inspiring Action for Racial & Economic Equity
Local residents, advocates, and elected officials gathered on Friday, May 19 in San Rafael for Step Up Marin! This Community Action Marin signature event helps to eliminate the causes and consequences of poverty in the county. The event raised funds for Community Action Marin’s anti-poverty movement building efforts, which help to put people on a path of stability and greater hope while transforming systems toward justice.
During the event, John Lam, once a preschooler at the agency’s Canal Children’s Center and today a principal dancer with the Boston Ballet, spoke about forging a new path from humble beginnings. We also heard from Lynette Stewart, who received the 2023 Community Courage Award. She shared her story of going from living in her car with her young son to getting help and moving toward her dreams. Look for video highlights of all of our incredible speakers coming soon.
Community Action Marin has been assisting people across Marin County for over 50 years. By working together in community, we are helping people to achieve well-being by providing the vital services they need so that all of us in Marin have an equal opportunity to live our lives with dignity and respect. We break down barriers to lasting change and invite you to be part of the action for justice.
Lynette Stewart receives Community Action Marin’s second annual Community Courage Award.
