Marin Rent Control
The cost of housing has exploded in Marin
With the average home costing about $1.5 million, the only way that thousands of working families, young people, and seniors are able to make it here is to rent. Marin rents have skyrocketed to some of the highest in the nation, far outpacing wages. With almost no local protections in place, more than a third of all Marin residents—our friends, families, and neighbors—are one rent hike away from being forced out of their homes and out of our communities.
The Marin Rent Control Campaign is a community-driven effort aimed at ensuring fair housing policies, protecting tenants, and creating more equitable housing opportunities in Marin County. Community Action Marin is a proud member of the Marin Rent Control coalition. Through various local initiatives and ballot measures, we are working to secure rent control and eviction protections for all.
We are advocating for the following measures that will appear on local ballots this November 2024
- NO on Measure I – Fairfax
Measure I is an effort to repeal existing rent control and tenant protections in place in Fairfax. A no vote will help maintain existing protections for renters and prevent unreasonable rent hikes to help ensure that tenants have the stability and security they need to thrive.
- YES on Measures O & N – San Anselmo
Measures O & N will establish tenant protections and rent control in San Anselmo, helping to curb displacement and promote housing affordability. - YES on Measure K – Larkspur
Measure K will establish rent control and eviction protections in Larkspur. A yes vote will ensure that residents have the right to remain in their homes without fear of unjust evictions or dramatic rent increases.
