How It Works:

The goal of Prosperity Partners is to empower low-wealth Marin residents to build assets and achieve financial independence and prosperity. The collaborative is working to develop a continuum of asset-building opportunities that move families and individuals along a path from breaking even to getting ahead. By creating innovative partnerships between nonprofits, government agencies and the business community, Prosperity Partners provides opportunities for Marin residents to accumulate, leverage and preserve assets.

The Prosperity Partners office at Community Action Marin supports the collaborative through central coordination, capacity building and training, communication and outreach, and data collection and analysis. In addition, Prosperity Partners is the lead agency for two United Way of the Bay Area projects – the SparkPoint Marin Center and Earn It! Keep It! Save It! Marin.

Earn It! Keep It! Save It! Marin

The Earn It! Keep It! Save It! Marin coalition provides free tax preparation to low- to moderate income individuals, families, and seniors and connects taxpayers to crucial tax benefits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit. Tax returns are prepared by certified volunteers through a partnership with AARP Tax-Aide Marin, United Way of the Bay Area, the IRS, Prosperity Partners, and other local community organizations. Last year, AARP Tax-Aide and local free tax sites in Marin County completed more than 2,800 tax returns. As a result, over $3 million in refunds were returned to the pockets of Marin residents and put back into the local economy.
