Head Start at 50

September 1, 2014

We began our year celebrating the fact that 2015 will mark the 50th anniversary since the inception of Head Start. Head Start was created in 1965 as part of Lyndon B. Johnson’s “War on Poverty” to give children in poverty a head start in health, wellbeing and their education. In celebration we wanted to reflect on our own Head Start roots in Marin County.

September is always a time of new beginnings at Community Action Marin as the  Head Start and Child Development Centers fill up with new children and the preschoolers start kindergarten.  In some classrooms we are hiring new teachers while in others the staff who have been dealing with a full house all summer due to school age children being there can start to think about maybe taking a vacation of their own, but not until the new school year gets underway.
